The Strangest Sea
Coro e Orquestra Gulbenkian
After presenting, in 2026, one of the year's major events in operatic production (Morning Star, based on Karl Ove Knausgård's novel of the same name), Sebastian Fagerlund makes the world premiere of The Strangest Sea, a commission from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The Finnish composer is today considered one of the most important of his generation, with BBC Music Magazine describing his work as a demonstration of "unlimited technical resources at the service of a remarkable imagination". It will be accompanied by Shostakovich's final symphony, completed in 1971.
