Lambchop

In The Bible, his previous album of original songs from 2022, Kurt Wagner asked those difficult questions that assail us more frequently when we have lived a long life: he addressed death, the body when it stops being young, his father's aging, or, put briefly, he gave us a reflection on time, but in peace, without conflict and fear. If we needed an image for this moment in Kurt Wagner's life, here it is now, illustrating this tour, with the North American musician looking at us with a serene face and long beard, as if to tell us, symbolically, that time is a good companion. Perhaps that's why Lambchop has reduced itself on stage lately, allowing the songs to break free and expand, and survive expectations, leaving valuable space for a close dialogue with his accomplice Andrew Broder. Punching the Clown, Lambchop's new album, brings another session of this intimacy, made of affections, humour and some grief, written with minimal vocabulary, without ornaments, closer to our intimate nature. A beautiful feat for someone who, in over 30 years, has left us a legacy of songs about the trivialities of our life and existence – where love fits, tenderness, community, Nashville, and the greatness of small things.
