Shardik
Cruelty Bacchanal

Cruelty Bacchanal, writes Matt Hollenberg, "is about the erosion of empathy – about how the celebration of violence and the embrace of nihilism have become a display of strength in modern society". This is how Shardik's leader conceives the group's second album for Tzadik, music made of pieces that break apart and reorganize in different ways. In a mixture of heavy metal, free jazz and classical composition codes, always seeking uncharted sonic escapes, Hollenberg's guitar allies itself with Sana Nagano's violin, Nick Jost's bass and Danny Sher's drums. According to the website Everythings Is Noise, the "vaguely Eastern European nuances" come together with a "deliberate evocation of ancient Roman festivities", a mirror of a world in convulsion (political, human and social). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESw6Xt2gtUk
