SML

When the quintet SML (Small Medium Large), a supergroup formed by Anna Butterss, Jeremiah Chiu, Josh Johnson, Booker Stardum and Gregory Uhlmann, made their debut in 2024, Pitchfork qualified the album as "an exciting landmark" in contemporary avant-garde music, suggesting that SML "may signal a new iteration of jazz, or may not even be jazz, or may not even matter". In SML's music, there is an implosion of the various musical genres the group cites at any given moment, in an attitude of voraciousness that exhausts possibilities, soon tiring and moving in another direction. Each instrument, as happened at the beginning of Miles Davis's electric phase (2026 is the year of his centenary), transcends its sonic characteristic and functions as a portal to another surprising dimension. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfbF6SD4LEk How You Been by SML
