Kafka-Fragmente

In the opening of a cycle dedicated to centenary composers György Kurtág and Betsy Jolas, Gulbenkian Música presents the Kafka Fragments, for soprano and violin. After his initial fascination with the literary output of Czech writer upon reading The Metamorphosis, Kurtág spent decades collecting fragments from Kafka's writings, recorded in notebooks, diaries and letters. From this collection, between 1985 and 1986 he immersed himself in the composition of 40 pieces, creating a striking dialogue between his art and that of Kafka, reflected in the relationship between the two instruments.
