The Trios for piano, violin and cello Op. 11 and Op. 70 No. 1 reveal two very distinct moments in Beethoven's creative trajectory. Separated by roughly a decade, these works bear witness to the transformation of a young composer who assimilated the conventions of his time into a creator capable of expanding the boundaries of musical language.

In the Trio Op. 11, known as "Gassenhauer", Beethoven takes a popular melody as his point of departure to construct a work marked by elegance, humour and virtuosity. Meanwhile, the Trio Op. 70 No. 1, nicknamed "Phantom", explores more intense and unsettling expressive territories, anticipating some of the characteristics that would come to define nineteenth-century romanticism.

Placed side by side, these two trios offer a portrait of Beethoven's extraordinary capacity for reinvention and invite us to follow the evolution of one of the most influential voices in the history of music.
