Siddharta
Lisaboa Houbrechts

BOX OFFICE OPENING – 2026_2027 SEASON
June 18-21: Exclusively for CCB Card holders
From June 22 onwards: General public
Protected from all suffering, Siddhartha sees his life defined from the beginning. Yet an inner voice leads him to seek a different destiny. Throughout his journey, he confronts various experiences until he finds meaning in the contradictions of human existence. The character created by Hermann Hesse does not correspond to the historical Buddha, but rather to a man traversed by doubts, vulnerabilities and desires.
With Hesse's novel in hand, Lisaboa Houbrechts, one of the most relevant directors on the contemporary international scene, reconnected with herself in India during the pandemic. In her adaptation of Sidarta, she constructs a scenic polyphony that brings together arts and cultures, reinvents characters and questions gender roles. The protagonist is performed by singer and composer Meskerem Mees. Structured around the music of composer Caroline Shaw, performed by a choir of 24 members, SIDDHARTHA crosses theatre, art song, pop improvisation, Sufi songs and Indian dance, composing a performative universe marked by the diversity of languages and references.
Accessibility: Performance with Audio Description on January 31st, at 5:00 PM.
