Dal:um

Taking two traditional South Korean string instruments, the gayageum and the geomungo, Ha Suyean and Hwang Hyeyoung created a duo in which they reinterpret the language of these instruments in light of a contemporary approach. Under the designation Dal:um, the two young women invent a unique sonority, claiming tradition as living and renewable material, through music as bold as it is beautiful, as enchanting as it is challenging. Their most recent album, Coexistence, was inspired by natural landscapes in the vicinity of Seoul, but also by those they discovered in their European tours. Photography © Jaeyoung Park
