Final session of the cinema and conversation cycle Modos de Rever: O Cinema Sob Influência (da Pintura). The session, dedicated to the Contemporary theme, will feature the screening of "Os Canibais" (1988) by Manoel de Oliveira, with the presence of poet and writer Amândio Reis and researcher Patrícia Castello Branco, moderated by Isabel Lopes Gomes. 21 NOV | SAT | 17:00 CONTEMPORARY OS CANIBAIS Manoel de Oliveira | POR, FRA, FRG, ITA, SUI | 1988 | 90' Set in a palace of a strange high society, Os Canibais concerns the love triangle between the enigmatic Viscount of Aveleda, the maiden Margarida (whom the Viscount asks to marry) and D. José, suitor of the maiden. The passionate and morbid plot creates a web of intrigues and revelations that, at the edge of surrealism, leads all its characters to perdition. This grotesque opera-film results from the cinematographic transposition of a nineteenth-century tale by Álvaro do Carvalhal, articulated between the adaptation of the text by Oliveira and the libretto, inspired by it, by João Paes.
