Camarim

A camarim is the dressing room — where whoever is about to go on stage gets ready. This is the same place, for whoever is about to write about us: ready-to-paste descriptions, today’s numbers, logos to download — and what to say, and what not to.

Nothing on this page requires asking permission. Use whatever you need.

Primeira Plateia is an independent national guide to theatre, dance, opera and performing arts in Portugal. It began with a problem that is easy to describe and hard to solve: Portuguese cultural programming is entirely public, yet scattered across dozens of sites that do not talk to each other — each with its own calendar, its own date format and its own idea of what "this week" means. Every night, Primeira Plateia reads the official sources of 77 venues across 20 districts, reconciles what changed since the day before and rebuilds the catalogue — today 1524 events on and 1285 artists with dates booked. What the machine cannot decide is left for a person to decide; what it decides wrongly is recorded and can be undone. It sells no tickets and puts nothing between audiences and venues: every event links to the venue's official box office. It is free for audiences and venues alike, carries no advertising, and the code is open.

How it works

  1. 1

    Collection

Every night a pipeline reads each venue’s official sources — the venue site, the box office, the feed where one exists.

  2. 2

    Reconciliation

Each event gets a stable fingerprint, so the same play at the same place never becomes two. What vanished from the source is flagged, not deleted.

  3. 3

    Curation

What the machine cannot decide — an ambiguous name, an odd date, a show that looks duplicated — goes into a queue for a person to decide.

  4. 4

    Publication

The rebuilt catalogue feeds the site, the subscribable calendar, the newsletter and the maps. Every event links to the official box office.

06

What to say, and what not to

This is it

  • An independent aggregator of cultural listings.
  • Gathers what is already public on venues’ own sites.
  • Always links to each venue’s official box office.
  • Free for audiences and for venues alike.

Not this

  • “sells tickets” We sell nothing. Purchase always happens at the venue.
  • “ticketing platform” We are not an intermediary in any transaction.
  • “cultural social network” There is no feed and no public profiles of visitors.
  • “startup” It is one person’s independent project, with no investment.

Talk to me

If something is still missing — a statement, a number that isn’t here, an image in another format — write. I answer in Portuguese or English, usually the same day.

There is also the about page, with the story and the method in full, and the partners page, for venues who want to join.
