The Straight Story

A portrait of a real man's journey through the heart of America. Filmed along the 418-kilometre route that Alvin Straight traveled in 1994, from Laurens, Iowa, to Mt. Zion, Wisconsin, The Straight Story recounts Alvin's patient odyssey and those he meets along the way. When not driving at 8 kilometres per hour in his 66-year-old John Deere, Alvin encounters a series of strangers, from a runaway teenager to a fellow Second World War veteran. By sharing the wisdom gained over his lifetime through simple stories, Alvin has a profound impact on these characters who paint his pilgrimage.
