País Distante
João Paulo Esteves da Silva Quarteto

BOX OFFICE OPENING – 2026_2027 SEASON
June 18-21: exclusively for CCB Card holders
From June 22 onwards: general public
The new album by João Paulo Esteves da Silva, País Distante, marks a doubly significant milestone in the Portuguese music landscape: on one hand, it marks 30 years of discographic releases by the composer-pianist, whose debut under his own name, Serra sem Fim, dates from 1995; on the other, it inaugurates the new Artway Jazz catalogue, a label by Artway Editions that promises to become a reference for national jazz.
Recorded at La Buissonne studio in southern France, País Distante presents a newly formed quartet, featuring Julian Argüelles on tenor and soprano saxophones, Rodrigo Correia on double bass and José Salgueiro on drums. The repertoire includes both compositions by Esteves da Silva and a series of collective improvisations of great compositional focus. Traversing sounds such as Portuguese jazz, European jazz, avant-garde jazz, classical music and rock, this album can be regarded as an extraordinarily concise synthesis of the vast universe of the composer-pianist, pointed out by his peers as one of the most original figures in European music of recent decades.
Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to capture, store and use image, sound and voice recordings for the purposes of broadcasting and preserving the memory of both its cultural and artistic activities and its spaces.
