COMPANHIA JOÃO GARCIA MIGUEL O AMOR É FODIDO What we propose is a work that deals with love in all its complexity — a kind of contemporary Romeo and Juliet in which lovers deceive each other, committing suicide for love, yet continuing after all: alive. There is a resistance, a willingness to begin what has not yet begun. Love is hard work and it endures until the day of our death. There is a desire to laugh and to have fun with life. With everything that hurts and everything that brings us joy. Let the tools be prepared. Let things be said. Let love be spoken of incessantly. When the moment comes, we will cease to be men and women. We will be merely screwed beings. We will recognize the nothingness and everything we are. Desperate to start again. We strain intelligence with the abilities of love until love is fucked. Intelligence will then begin to disappear. But we will insist again, after all we are loving and human. There are moments when it seems we almost see. Then we continue blind. Literary works, covered by a strange fascination, become myths, endure over time and speak to us. Live and on tape. They speak to those who read them and to others who know nothing of them because they merely heard tell. The most attractive and deceptive works are those that present themselves as integral and unsuspected testimonies that give them the value of definitive certainty. The authors, the sufferers of the facts, merely describe them as we would have lived them. It seems we are thrown body and mind into what has been made and what is now narrated to us. They make us believe we are there. We are the actor and after all we are alive. There is complete identification. This is the case with the work: O Amor É Fodido by Miguel Esteves Cardoso. It is a book of an era and of a strange character who survived there. We have all been there and lived there: in love and in what love screws in us. What then is the advantage of telling it again? Or of dressing it anew?
