Premièred in 1735 at the Opéra de Paris, Les Indes Galantes is one of Jean-Philippe Rameau's most emblematic works, a prime example of the ballet à entrées genre, where different autonomous episodes unite under the theme of the triumph of love. Set in exotic territories — from Turkey to Peru, from Persia to North America — these stories reflect the eighteenth-century European fascination with distant cultures, more imagined than faithfully represented.

Guided by the allegorical figure of Love, the audience is invited on a journey marked by fantasy, by the contrast of emotions and by expressive richness. Rameau's music, of great orchestral inventiveness and dramatic refinement, alternates between the vibrant energy of dances and the subtlety of arias, revealing a remarkable emotional diversity.

In this programme, the role of the soprano stands out, tasked with giving voice to multiple characters and states of mind — from tenderness to passion, from fear to ecstasy. Ana Vieira Leite takes on this challenge, bringing to the stage the expressiveness and versatility demanded by this repertoire, in dialogue with the Ludovice Ensemble, in a celebration of the elegance and imagination of French Baroque.
