Carmen by Bizet
Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa e Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos

BOX OFFICE OPENING – 2026_2027 SEASON
From 18 to 21 June: exclusively for CCB Card holders
From 22 June onwards: general public
Shortly after its publication in 1845, Carmen, Prosper Mérimée's novella, was labelled shocking and scandalous. Thirty years later, Georges Bizet premiered "his" Carmen in Paris; since then, it has become one of the most frequently staged operas in the world.
The story of the gypsy woman who does not hesitate to die in the name of freedom and love remains one of the most striking and enduring contemporary myths about the mysterious nature of Woman. Over the years, Carmen, revisited by countless directors, has gained new facets and interpretations. Yet the essential element persists: Carmen, the fatal anti-heroine, remains the unyielding centre of all versions.
Pre-concert conversation 30 minutes before each performance.
