Mahler's Symphony No. 5

Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa e Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa

Mahler's Symphony No. 5

TICKET SALES OPENING – 2026_2027 SEASON

June 18-21: exclusively for CCB Card holders

From June 22 onwards: general public

An unmissable annual tradition returns to the Grande Auditório of Centro Cultural de Belém, uniting the talent and energy of the meeting between the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa and the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa. Following the success of previous celebrations, the two orchestras invite the public on an epic journey from darkness to light, under the direction of Pedro Carneiro. The programme opens with the world premiere of a new orchestral work by young composer Marco Pereira (commissioned by CCB). Next, in tribute to the bicentenary of Beethoven's death, we will hear one of the most striking moments from the opera Fidélio, performed by the extraordinary Portuguese tenor Luís Gomes, winner of the prestigious Zarzuela Don Plácido Domingo Ferrer awards and the Audience Award at Operalia. After the interval, the OCP and JOP embark on an emotional journey, from the depths of pain and tragedy to jubilant triumph: Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor is a masterpiece that transcends late romanticism, serving as a bridge between 19th-century sensibility and the avant-gardes of 20th-century modern music.

Pre-concert conversation by Pedro Carneiro at 16:30.
