Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino

Founded by poet Rina Durante and musician Daniele Durante in 1975, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino recovers the traditional sound of Italy's Salento region, the pizzica, associated with the ritual of tarantism — ceremonial music intended to free women afflicted by spiritual ailments, it was said, caused by tarantula bites. Il Mito, the album that the ensemble now directed by Mauro Durante brings to Gulbenkian Música, reinterprets 50 years of a poignant repertoire that transforms the captivating traditional pizzica into a decidedly contemporary sound.
