1909 Spellbound

Sixth session of the film and conversation cycle Modos de Rever: O Cinema Sob Influência (da Pintura). The session, dedicated to the theme Surrealism, will feature the screening of "Spellbound" (1945) by Alfred Hitchcock, with the presence of artist António Gonçalves and psychoanalyst Cláudia Milheiro, moderated by Isabel Lopes Gomes. 19 SEP | SAT | 17:00 SURREALISMOS SPELLBOUND | SPELLBOUND Alfred Hitchcock | USA | 1945 | 118' When Dr. Anthony Edwardes arrives at a psychiatric hospital in Vermont to replace the outgoing director, Dr. Constance Peterson, a psychoanalyst, discovers that Edwardes is actually an impostor. The man confesses that the real Dr. Edwardes is dead and fears he may have killed him, but cannot remember anything. Dr. Peterson, however, is convinced that the impostor is innocent of the murder and joins him in a quest to unravel his amnesia through psychoanalysis. Spellbound was to be an important turning point in Hitchcock's career, at that time an important technician in Hollywood, who would quickly transform into one of the greatest authors of American and world cinema.
