Terra Crua

At a moment of pressure on the planet's limits, we look at raw earth not as a nostalgic return, but as a natural, local and available resource. Building with earth is understanding the territory and reactivating a knowledge archive that connects local resources and constructive culture. The exhibition traces a path from matter to action: from the physical and mineral complexity of soil to accumulated knowledge, to practices that reclaim earth as a viable, ethical and poetic building material. Starting from the soil — the ground beneath our feet — it invites a rediscovery of raw earth as matter, archive and agent of contemporary architecture in Portugal. It brings together scientific and historical content, prototypes and case studies, as well as collaborative experiences that analyse and reuse excavated earth from construction sites in Lisbon, revealing its performance and potential as a circular resource and opening possibilities for its participation in the city's construction.

◾ Conversations around earth: earth in urbanism Wednesday, 17 June, 5:00 pm at Centro de Arquitetura What becomes of the earth excavated in Portugal's capital? Following the "Terras de Lisboa" project, this conversation establishes a connection with international cooperative experiences working on valorising excavated earth and crosses them with national reality. Architects, builders, engineers and policy makers analyse the logistical, bureaucratic and cultural challenges that prevent the circulation and access to this material, with the aim of exploring viable models for integrating local earth in the city's own construction.
